This is a round trip of 10 miles. It starts at the Clifden Arms pub at Worminghall (Grid ref SP 638083, Landranger 164) This is a lovely old beamed pub with friendly landlords, who have been very helpful.

Leave the pub and go to point A- a crossroads where you will need some help from your groom to cross safely. Follow the road to Oakley, and turn left at the pub. Follow the road to where it crosses the M40. You will be beneath some overhead electricity grid lines, but there is a large patch of grass here, suitable for a rest, cup of coffee, a chat etc.
Go over the M40 and feel very superior by your gentler mode of transport as the traffic hurtles past beneath you. The road takes you past the picturesque NT Nature Reserve of Shabbington Woods and around Hell Coppice, where a schoolboy discovered the very rare Black Haistreak butterfly for the first time in the UK in the 19th Century. Come back over the M40 again, and feel even more superior as you look forward to some light refreshment and a get-together at the Clifden Arms.

BE AWARE

The road bridges are noisey. The first one is high sided, but the second is not so be careful, or lead your ponies if they are nervous.

Please let me have your intentions to drive by the 12th August, either by e-mail peterkyle@tiscali.co.uk or phone 01235 765810

Normal BDS advice and rules apply. The whip must be a BDS member. This drive is NOT concours d’elegance, therefore hard hats and reflectors recommended.
